About

We protect the things that we value the most.

Since I was a little kid I remember wanting a farm with a million kids and animals on it.  Didn't ever really know why or what we would do but it just seemed like too much fun to pass up.  Fast forward about fifteen years I found myself in South America and was walking through a small community that had been built on a garbage dump.  Coming to the end of the road I ran into a few kids that were playing.  They weren't used to seeing a blond haired gal walking through their hood so immediately were intrigued.  There were four brothers, the oldest one, David, was about nine.  He had the sweetest brown eyes, and was protective of his siblings.  We played games for a while before they squeezed on the log next to me while I sat there and told them the story of Jesus.

They were shocked to learn there was someone who loved them no matter what and had died to take away every sin they had ever done or would do.  Soon after we walked over to their house where their mom sat.  The house was a few pieces of plywood leaning against each other and supported by trash.  Their mom eagerly accepted some school materials for the kids.  She had some apparent addiction issues and the chances of her selling the supplies to fuel her addiction were high.  I resolved to come back the next day and check on the boys. The following afternoon I found myself walking down the  street.  Some of the same kids ran out to greet me.  I saw David's brothers but didn't see him.  I walked up to his house and saw his mom leaning in the doorway.  "Where's David?" She didn't know.  She had sent him out to get some trash and sell it for her.  He had left that morning and she didn't know where he was or when he would return.  I almost lost it right there.   A little nine year old boy gone all day picking up trash to fuel his mom's drug addiction wasn't my idea of protecting your son. Something about David kind of lit a fire inside me.  I don't know where he is and I might never know, but no kid should grow up feeling unprotected.  You protect something that is valuable, and I can't think of anything more valuable than someone's life.

Over the years I've met kids around the world and heard their stories of hardship beyond their years.  From sexual violence, to abandonment, to exploitation, it happens right under our noses.  In our backyards.  When you meet kids and look at the statistics its a little overwhelming.  It's such a normal thing for kids to be exploited and in comparison with the problem not many people are standing up for them.   So I'm going to try to help a little.  I want to save kids and bring them to my ranch where my hope is for them to  feel loved and valued like they should be.   If I help one kid that has felt alone and unprotected learn his value and that he is loved this whole ranch will be worth it.  Of course I want to save every kid in the whole entire world and bring them to my ranch, but right now I want to start with the one in front of me.
